Living on the edge – the plants do it!
We were fortunate to connect this year with Anna Stabler. Stabler studies social practice, relational aesthetics and production at MassArt in the Studio for Interrelated Media department. Her concentration has been around cultivating a sustainable and environmentally conscious culture at MassArt.
In 2014, she focused on the connections between food, people, art, material reuse, design, and community. Her living wall project Edge Effect demonstrates a small-scale option for growing food in the city, year round.
Stabler is a collaborator on a range of project relating to an expansive view of urban agriculture in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville:
Community Canteen – Stabler is a co-founder of Community Canteen – an unassuming supper series on a seriously social mission: to re-humanize our food system – one bowl of gudness at a time.
Community Canteen is a monthly supper club. The concept is in BETA: they’re testing out the idea of membership-based dining through recurring gatherings and canteen-style meals. Sort of like CSA – with a focus on the people.
We invite you to take a seat around our fire, and share in our stone soup.
MELD [a sourcing project] – “Art, food and conversation are inextricably connected together in MELD.” Meld is a traveling exhibitions and event management team. They are a collection of artists, designers, builders, farmers and big-time thinkers all based in Boston Massachusetts.
The team temporarily turns established spaces into places for both food and art in the form of a pop-up gallery. They curate and install exhibitions in food resources such as breweries, restaurants and markets. Finally, to bring the public together, the team crafts an event infused with local food and the exhibited art. Meld is an effort to provide a space where the middleman for the local food and art industry become one.
We’re excited to see what MELD and Stabler do next!
